Holiday In Scotland - Countryside

Scotland has some of the most breathtaking and beautiful scenery anywhere in the world.

In recent years the true value of this natural heritage has begun to be recognised with the creation of a National Park around Loch Lomond - one of the largest freshwater lochs in Scotland and now protected and safeguarded for the enjoyment of all. You can reach Loch Lomond in around 45 minutes from Bramblebank.

However, you don't have to travel to enjoy the countryside when you stay at Bramblebank. Set in hill farmland, Bramblebank already has easy access to the natural world which surrounds you — the bluebells pictured were growing in the garden and for anyone who takes a little time, there are lots more opportunities to enjoy the beauty of your surroundings.

Nearby, Wester Auchinrivoch Farm provides the opportunity to feed lambs in the Spring and throughout the year you can roam the hillside and explore the streams, the newly planted forest — the trees are saplings just now; this is an environmental investment for the future but already affords a protected environment for flora and fauna.

Within easy walking distance (walking boots required though !) you can reach Banton Loch. Not only does this offer the chance for Scottish trout fishing but it is also the site of the Battle Of Kilsyth which is commemorated with a memorial cairn on the edge of the loch.

With sturdy walking boots¹ you can walk through the farmland to the viewpoint and survey the whole Central Scotland valley or — for the more adventurous — a brisk hill climb will take you to the peak of Tomtain for an even more panoramic view.

There is a local hill walking club if you want advice, suggestions or even partners for walks — see our Holiday In Scotland contact page for details.

¹Don't worry if you don't have walking boots, let us know in advance and we can make special arrangement for you to buy good walking boots from a local company when you arrive.
